Alex Gonzalez out for season for torn ACL

Another injury for the Brewers....

Injury News:  Brewers shortstop Alex Gonzalez has a torn ACL in his right knee and is out for the season. Gonzalez's vesting option for 2013 is no longer in play and the Brewers now desperately need a shortstop. They've already lost Mat Gamel and Chris Narveson to season ending surgeries and it appears that health will determine if this team can remain a contender throughout the rest of the season.

Analysis: It appears that the Brew Crew will have to resort to Cesar Izturis playing shortstop for the remainder of the year, unless they make a trade. Some available shortstops at the deadline could include Mike Aviles, Cliff Pennington, Ronny Cedeno, Jason Bartlett and Clint Barmes. It appears like it will be tough to replace Gonzalez. There isn't much talent out there for the Brewers so they'll probably have to play Izturis and make a signing in the off season. Its a shame because the shortstop position has been a weak spot for them every since they traded JJ Hardy in 2009. Yuniesky Betancourt played moderately well last year but he signed with Kansas City in the off season. The Brewers front office is gonna have to build a shortstop through their minor league system or sign a free agent in the 2013 off season.
