Could Ryan Cook become an All-Star?

Cook has been very fun to watch this season.

We are nearing the end of May and the All-Star ballot will still be up for about another five weeks. Teams who aren't contending generally do not get as many All-Star representatives because most of their players get snubbed. Nobody expects the Athletics to contend this year but they do have some players on their roster who are worthy of being on the All-Star team. One of these players is relief pitcher Ryan Cook. Cook was a throw-in player that the Athletics received in the Trevor Cahill trade this off-season. It has appeared that the Athletics got a steal in this trade. Cook is only 24 years old and has made 19 appearances so far this season. He hasn't let up any runs and has 20 strikeouts in 21.3 innings. Incredibly, he's only let up 4 hits so far this season, making his H/9 ratio 1.7. Athletics Manager Bob Melvin has shown a lot of faith in Cook this season, having him preserve 16 wins in his last 16 games pitched. Its always interesting to see which relief pitchers get selected to the All-Star game because usually there's a pitcher that you probably never heard of. Last year it was Royals rookie relief pitcher Aaron Crow, who surprised the baseball world and had a sensational season. If Ryan Cook continues his success this season up until the All-Star break, he should easily be nominated to his first career All-Star team.
