Dodgers extend Andre Ethier

The Dodgers and outfielder Andre Ethier have agreed to a 5 year, $85 million contract extension. The contract also contains a sixth year vesting option. The deal is now official after the team had a press conference today confirming the signing.

Ethier has spent his entire major league career with the Dodgers and GM Ned Colletti wants him to be a cornerstone player for L.A.. Colletti signed Matt Kemp to a 8 year, $160 million contract extension this off-season so it is clear that he is willing to extend his players long term.


Analysis: This is great news for the Dodgers because they got Ethier for a very respectable price. I thought Ethier would test free agency and seek a contract exceeding $100 million, but I guess not. Not only the Dodgers playing well right now, they are also building for the future which is very important. Great signing by Ned Colletti.
