Ryan Dempster to the 15 day DL

Cubs starting pitcher Ryan Dempster has hit the 15 day DL with lat muscle tightness. He has apparently been pitching through the soreness, and has had 22 consecutive scoreless innings over his last 3 starts. Its his second stint on the DL this season. Pitcher Scott Maine has been called up from Triple-A to take Dempster's roster spot. Randy Wells will take Dempster's spot in the rotation, and will pitch Wednesday against the White Sox.

Analysis: This is awful news for the Cubs. Dempster has been great for Chicago this season and there were multiple reports saying that he was on the brink of being traded. Now the Cubs will have to wait for Dempster to come off of the DL and prove he is healthy to deal him. As a fantasy player, Dempster has been awesome this year. This is going to really hurt the owners who have Dempster and it will definitely be tough to find a replacement for him. Perhaps, if you are desperate for innings, you could pick up Randy Wells off of waivers, because it is assumed that he will get playing time now. Overall, this is just bad news for everyone.
