On Sunday Gee told others that he had numbness in his right hand. He allowed a run on seven hits in eight innings against the Cubs on Saturday.
Gee is 6-7 with a 4.10 ERA in 17 starts this season. Chris Young will start in Gee's place Friday night in Atlanta.
Analysis: Luckily this isn't serious, because the Mets rotation has been stellar for the most part this season and Gee has been a good pitcher at the back end of that rotation. I wonder if Manager Terry Collins will use a four man rotation now, or use someone like Miguel Batista or Jeremy Hefner temporarily. As a diehard Mets fan, my heart is hoping that the club calls up top prospect Matt Harvey, who is currently pitching well in Triple-A. However, my brain is telling me that calling him up may not be the right time right now because when he gets called up eventually, he will be up to stay. I doubt the team is going to give him a couple spot starts and see what happens. I ultimately think New York is going to simply plug in Miguel Batista or Jeremy Hefner for now.
