McClellan elects shoulder surgery, out for season

Cardinals pitcher Kyle McClellan recently got an MRI that said he had a tear in his pitching elbow. A few days ago he decided to elect surgery to get the tear fixed. He will be out for the season.

McClellan admitted that he has felt the injury since Spring Training, and suggests that last years workload could have hurt his arm.

McClellan had a 5.30 ERA in 18 2/3 innings pitched this year. He was originally aiming to return off of the disabled list around mid-August.
