Orioles are making a strong push for Greinke

The Orioles are reportedly "going hard" after Brewers' pitcher Zack Greinke. Baltimore seems to be the most aggressive suitor for Greinke, according to several reports. Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com believes that either the Orioles or Braves will land Greinke this summer.

Brewers GM Doug Melvin recently said that his team is "trying to win games and get back in the hunt." The team may wait until after the All-Star break to determine it's state in the Central division.

Orioles GM Dan Duquette recently told reporters that he'd like to improve the starting rotation as soon as possible. He also said that top prospects Manny Machado and Dylan Bundy will not be available.

Greinke has a 3.08 ERA in 108 innings this year. If the Brewers were to let him walk via free agency, they would receive two compensatory draft picks in return. If Greinke were to get traded and then he were to go to a different team via free agency, the team that traded for him would not get any draft picks, under the new collective bargaining agreement.

Analysis: It will take a lot to pry Greinke out of Milwaukee, and I would imagine it would be very hard to get Greinke without giving up Machado or Bundy. The Orioles definitely need Greinke and they will need to make a huge commitment to him if they want him as a rental player this year.
