Athletics designate Godfrey for assignment

The Athletics have designated pitcher Graham Godfrey for assignment. The move makes roster space for newly-acquired infielder Stephen Drew, who was acquired from the Diamondbacks on Monday.

Godfrey had a brief stint with Oakland this year, and appeared in five games for Oakland this year, posting a 6.43 ERA in 21 innings. Oakland originally acquired him in the Marco Scutaro deal after the 2007 season.

Analysis: Godfrey put up very good numbers in the minors but I don't expect a team to put a claim on him. Hopefully he sticks with Oakland because they definitely need bullpen depth.
