Cubs, Castro agree on extension

The Cubs and shortstop Starlin Castro have agreed on a seven year contract extension worth $60 million. The deal includes a $16 million option for 2020 which would boost the overall value of the contract to $76 million.

Castro, 22, has hit .276 with 12 homers in 495 plate appearances this season. He got 207 hits last season, which lead the league in that category.

Analysis: Nice deal for both sides. At first, I thought this was a great deal for Chicago, and then I remembered that Castro had some laziness problems in the past. Now that he has a big contract, I wonder if he will be as focused as he was prior to this. Anyway, Castro is one of the great young players in the game, but his work ethic is sometimes questioned.
