The Padres announced that outfielder Jeremy Hermida has cleared waivers and will elect to become a free agent.San Diego designated Hermida for assignment last week after he hit .250 in 27 plate appearances for them. Hermida has spent most of the 2012 season on the disabled list due to several injuries.
Analysis: Hermida will probably get picked up by another team because he can serve as a nice left handed power threat off the bench.
