The Astros have claimed third baseman Brandon Laird off of waivers from the Yankees. Laird was designated for assignment by New York on August 27.He has spent the entire season in Triple-A, where he has hit .254 with 15 homers in 550 plate appearances.
Analysis: Nice move here by the Astros. I was somewhat surprised when the Yankees designated Laird for assignment because he has nice upside and some pop to his bat. Now the Astros have a bunch of third basemen with decent upside, most notably Matt Dominguez and Jimmy Paredes.
