Orioles claim Pearce off of waivers

The Orioles have claimed infielder/outfielder Steve Pearce off of waivers from the Yankees. Pearce was designated for assignment by the Yankees on Tuesday.

This marks the second time that Pearce has gone from the Yankees to the Orioles during the 2012 season. Baltimore bought his contract from the Yankees in June and designated him for assignment in June. The Astros claimed him off of waivers but then traded him back to the Yankees a month later.

Pearce is a career .234, but generally hits lefties pretty well, owning a .266 batting average against southpaws.

Analysis: Pearce has definitely had a crazy 2012 season, suiting up for several teams and being designated for assignment a countless amount of times. He will not be able to be eligible for the post-season once he joins the Orioles, but he could provide them with some depth down the stretch, I suppose.
