The Orioles have designated pitcher Kevin Gregg and infielder Ryan Adams for assignment. The move creates roster space for Endy Chavez and L.J. Hoes, who have been recalled from Triple-A.Gregg signed a two year, $10 million deal with Baltimore after the 2010 season, and has been a huge disappointment. He has posted a 4.53 ERA in his time with the Orioles. His contract includes a 2013 club option worth $6 million that apparently won't be exercised.
Adams has spent the entire 2012 season in the minor leagues. He has hit .225 with various MiLB levels this year, and was Baltimore's second round pick of the 2006 draft.
Analysis: Finally. Gregg is finally off of the team. He has been awful during his tenure in Baltimore, and it's nice to see him get the boot here. He probably won't get claimed, and the Orioles will definitely not pick up his 2013 option. They have faith in Jim Johnson, and who can blame them? As for Adams, he'll probably clear waivers even though he has some upside. He isn't much of a threat at the plate, and I don't think any team will be interested in him.
