Diamondbacks exercise J.J. Putz's 2013 option

The Diamondbacks have announced that they have officially exercised closer J.J. Putz's 2013 club option that is worth $6.5 million. Putz would have been owned a $1.5 million buyout if Arizona decided not to bring him back in 2013.

Putz posted a  combined 2.48 ERA in two years with Arizona, and saved 77 games in 86 opportunities. Arizona signed Putz to a two year, $10 million contract after the 2010 season.

Analysis: We had to see this coming. Putz was very solid in his years with Arizona, despite his age. $6.5 million wont' break the bank, so retaining him definitely makes sense. I just wish that he would have had this kind of success when he was with my Mets in 2009.
