Mariners decline Olivo's 2013 option

The Mariners announced that they have declined catcher Miguel Olivo's 2013 club option. The option was worth $3 million for 2013, with a $750k buyout that Seattle is now responsible for covering. He will become a free agent when the World Series ends.

Olivo hit .222 in 323 plate appearances for Seattle in 2012. He prevented 31% of stolen base attempts in 2012, which is considerably high.

Analysis: In my opinion, Olivo is somewhat washed up and this was a no-brainer move. He was an ultimate bust with Seattle and I'm sure that they are glad to get him off of the books. Olivo will definitely get a contract from a major league team, considering that he still represents a power threat and is a solid defensive catcher.
