The Yankees have announced that infielder Casey McGehee has refused his outright assignment to the minor leagues and will elect free agency.McGehee spent the 2012 season with the Pirates and Yankees, hitting .217 in 352 plate appearances. He has experience at third base and first base.
Analysis: McGehee was a decent third baseman a few years ago with Milwaukee, but is really a bench player at this point. He has some pop to his bat, but I wouldn't really call him a good platoon player because he doesn't have significant lefty-righty splits. He'll sign a minor league deal with someone.
