Extension Updates

• Ken Rosenthal of FOX sports says that extension talks between Matt Garza and the Cubs are going "very well." The Cubs traded for Garza a few years ago and gave up a boatload of prospects for him. By the way, Jeff Samardzija's emergence has gotten the club excited about having two power arms in the starting rotation for the foreseeable future. 

         Analysis:  Hopefully the Cubs lock up Garza long term and make him one of their cornerstone    players. They paid a hefty price for the hard throwing right hander and I'm sure they don't want to lose him to free agency. It sounds like the extension talks have been going well so that's good news for Chicago.

What could a David Wright extension look like? Could it exceed $100 million?

• Adam Rubin of ESPN New York believes that the Mets should sign David Wright to a long term contract. Both sides haven't began any contract talks yet so there is still a possibility of the All-Star third baseman being traded in the future. Reyes' departure might convince the club to trade Wright and start a full rebuild. The team holds a $16 million option for 2013 season for Wright and he will be eligible for free agency for the first time in his career after the 2013 season (assuming his option is picked up and he hasn't signed an extension at that point.)

          Analysis: Being a Mets fan is so tough. There's so much confusion and you never get a definite answer about anything. Hopefully, GM Sandy Alderson invests his money in Wright and keeps him here for the future. The most logical thing to do would be to trade Wright because his value is skyrocketing right now, but as a Mets fan I hope he doesn't get traded.
