Giants sign Brad Penny

The San Francisco Giants have signed pitcher Brad Penny, who was released by the Fukuoka Softbank Hawks in the Japanese league, earlier this season. Penny will head over to extended spring training next week and is expected to be part of the bullpen for the Giants. The Giants already have a surplus of pitching so Penny could be used as a spot starter if needed. He pitched last year for the Tigers and did not have a great year. He posted a 5.30 ERA in 31 starts with a 11H/9. Penny has always been known as a ground ball pitcher and never puts up big strikeout numbers.

Penny can give the Giants some pitching depth

Analysis: I suppose this a good signing. The Giants have a lot of pitching depth already but I guess you can never have enough pitching. Penny can give you innings so I can see him in a long-relief role. Overall,   this isn't a bad signing by the Giants and if one of the Giants' starters gets injured, Penny can make a few starts until that pitcher gets back.
