Minor moves

• The Reds have signed outfielder Joey Gathright. Gathright was hitting .240 for an independent league. He appeared in seven games for the Red Sox last season and has always been known for his speed.
• The Long Island Ducks of the independent Atlantic League have signed former MLB closer Armando Benitez. Benitez has had 289 career saves in 15 MLB seasons. He last played in the MLB in 2008 with the Blue Jays.
• The Blue Jays have acquired catcher Paul Phillips from the Brewers for cash considerations. Phillips has been playing in Triple-A and has a career .269 BA in 13 career minor league seasons.
