Orioles to extend Adam Jones

The Baltimore Orioles have announced that they will sign outfielder Adam Jones to a long term extension.  Jones passed his physical yesterday and the two sides are completing the final details of the contract. The details of the contract have yet to be announced. Jones is earning $6.15 million this year as a second-time arbitration eligible player. Jones is currently hitting .311 with 14 home runs. He has a career OBP of .322, but that appears to be rising lately because he is drawing more walks.

It appears that Jones will be in an Orioles uniform for a long time

Analysis: We all knew that the Orioles were not going to let Jones walk via free agency so this is obviously a good move. He is on the verge of having a breakout year this season and so are the Orioles. Locking up Jones now is incredibly smart and he is only 26 years old so he probably hasn't even reached his prime yet. We'll have to see what the details of the contract look like but as of now it looks like a good signing by Orioles GM Dan Duquette.
