In Februrary 2012 the Rockies decided that they needed to upgrade their pitching. They grabbed starting pitcher Jeremy Guthrie from the Orioles in exchange for Jason Hammel and fire-baller Matt Lindstrom. Many thought that the Rockies instantly won the trade because Guthrie was a solid innings-eater who can give a few quality starts every here and there. It appeared that the Rockies' pitcher Jason Hammel needed a change of scenery and Lindstrom needed a team that he would be able to get more playing time on.
Heres a breakdown of the trade as of May 28:
Rockies receive: SP Jeremy Guthrie 2-3 win-loss record, 5.31 ERA, 7 games started, 10.2 H/9
Orioles receive: SP Jason Hammel 6-1 win-loss record, 2.78 ERA, 9 games started, 8.7 SO/9
RP Matt Lindstrom 0-0 win loss record, 1.29 ERA, 13 games, 9.0 SO/9

This trade has been looking good for the Orioles. Hammel has gotten off to a fantastic start and he looks like he has rebounded his career. Perhaps he needed a change of scenery. Lindstrom has pitched great as well, and is a reliable option for Manager Buck Showalter for late-in-the-game situations. Guthrie, however, has dealt with some lingering injury issues and has not performed well when healthy. I think the Orioles will ultimately come out on top from this trade and I expect Hammel and Lindstrom to continue to pitch well.
