What should the Cubs do with Carlos Marmol?

Carlos Marmol was signed out of the Dominican Republic by the Cubs and started his career as a catcher/outfielder. He batted .273 in 14 games and decided to convert and become a pitcher. He went 26-19 with a 3.41 ERA in the minors and was called up to the majors in 2006. The Cubs had Marmol start a few games in 2006 because they were unsure of his role with the big league club. In 2007, Marmol thrived in the bullpen as the setup man for the Cubs. He had a 1.43 ERA and opened many eyes in Chicago. Marmol had good years for the Cubs as the closer from 2008-2011. 2011 was kind of an off year for Marmol, he had a 4.01 ERA era, saved 34 games, and finished 70 games. Marmol has struggled a lot this season this far, posting a 6.23 ERA and becoming extremely unreliable for the Cubs. He recently was relieved of his closing duties and was replaced by flamethrower Rafael Dolis. Dolis appears like hes the real deal and the Cubs are giving him every chance to succeed. Marmol is signed through the 2013 season and is earning over $6 million this season and next season. The Cubs are looking to unload payroll and could try to trade Marmol at the trade deadline this year to a contender.

How much more patience do the Wrigley field faithful have with Marmol?

Analysis:  I think the Cubs should trade Marmol even if Dolis is DECENT as the Cubs closer. Marmol still have some value and could be shipped to a contender at the deadline. The Cubs really want to lower their payroll and start rebuilding. They should also trade Alfonso Soriano, Geovany Soto if they want to become competitive in the next few years. Marmol could give the Cubs a decent prospect (maybe a B-or C+ prospect), and the team could also receive much needed salary relief. Overall, I believe Marmol's time is limited in Chicago and the Cubs will have to make a big decision on him in the next few months.
