Could the Rockies be sellers at the deadline?

The Rockies are currently 24-34 and are in 4th place in the NL West. Many fans thought that they would compete this year but it is clear that they will probably not make the playoffs this season. The division is tough, with the Dodgers and Giants competing for the title and the D-Backs lingering in the wildcard race.  The big issue for the Rockies has always been pitching, and that is what is keeping them out of contention.  They added some arms like Jeremy Guthrie and Guillermo Moscoso in the off-season, but they haven't done that much. Their offense is very good, above average as a matter of fact. Long-time Rockie Todd Helton has been playing well and ofcourse, how could I leave out Carlos Gonzalez and Troy Tulowitzki. I believe that this franchise should be selling some of their players at the deadline. Some of those trades could bring back some young pitchers that could be used in the team's long term plans. Look at last years Ubaldo Jimenez trade for example. They traded Jimenez, who was coming off of a career year, for a bundle of young arms. Drew Pomeranz, Alex White and Rex Brothers were included in that trade and the Rockies expect them to be key pieces in their future. I think the Rockies will be sellers at the deadline and  here are players that I expect them to trade:


Rafael Betancourt: The market for relief pitchers has been very thin and Betancourt has been pitching well. He is a veteran and could serve as a very good setup man for contending team.

Jeremy Guthrie: Yes, I know they just got him but he clearly doesn't fit into the team's future plans and is an innings eater. His isn't doing well this year so a team could get him for cheap and use him as starting pitcher depth.

Jason Giambi: The veteran slugger could be made available this year. He still has some power and would be a perfect DH because he definitely cannot play the field anymore.

Marco Scutaro: The shortstop market is thin and the Rockies did not give up much to get him. The veteran shortstop is very good defensively and is an average hitter. A team could probably get him for close to nothing.

Michael Cuddyer: This all depends on how desperate the Rockies are for pitching. Cuddyer would bring a nice prospect or two back in return. He is a veteran slugger who is still capable of hitting 25+ home runs in a season.
