Cubs win bidding for Soler

The Cubs have won the bidding for Cuban outfielder Jorge Soler. Soler appeared to get many offers from many different teams.

Soler has until July 2 to sign with the Cubs. Some baseball analysts believe that he will get a contract that surpasses $15 million.

The MLB allowed Soler to become a free agent earlier this month. Soler is a 20 year old up and coming power outfielder from Cuba. Jim Callis of Baseball America considers him a top-50 prospect in the MLB.

Analysis: Theo Epstein and Co. are really making a leap of faith here and giving some cash to this young but raw outfielder. Sometimes these international signings end up being busts but only time will tell. If Soler ends up playing well, he could be a cornerstone player for the Cubs.
