Update: Cubs/Soler agree on 9 year deal

UPDATE: The Cubs and Cuban outfielder Jorge Soler have agreed on a 9 year deal worth about $30 million. At least 3 teams placed bids that exceeded $20 million. The Cubs won the bidding for Soler earlier today.

Analysis: I like this deal for the Cubs. Sure, like I mentioned in my article earlier today, international signings can be risky but something like this won't be a back breaking move for the Cubs. A nine year deal will have Soler signed for the best years in his prime and for a cheap price. If he lives up to the hype, this could be a remarkable signing for Theo Epstein and Co.
