The Brewers have announced that outfielder Jay Gibbons has retired. Gibbons last played in the big leagues in 2011 with the Dodgers.He appeared in 58 games for Milwaukee's Double-A and Triple-A affiliates this year, hitting .253. He will now retire with 127 career home runs and a .260 career batting average in nine big league seasons.
Analysis: I remember Gibbons when he was with Baltimore. He was a great player but a few years ago he got caught with steroids. That kind of derailed his career but he will be remembered as kind of a bust because he had trouble staying healthy when he was with the Orioles.
