The Mets have designated utility player Omar Quintanilla for assignment. The move creates roster space for outfielder Jason Bay, who has been on the disabled list for a few weeks with a concussion.Quintanilla has appeared in 29 games for New York this year, hitting .257 in 80 plate appearances.
