The Nationals have designated outfielder Rick Ankiel for assignment. The move creates roster space for pitcher Drew Storen, who has missed the entire season so far due to elbow soreness.Ankiel signed a one year, $1.25 million contract with the Nationals last winter. He appeared in 68 games as their center fielder and hit .228 with five home runs in 171 plate appearances.
