The Red Sox have placed designated hitter David Ortiz on the 15 day disabled list because of a strained right Achilles. Ortiz underwent an MRI on Tuesday and that confirmed the injury.Ortiz suffered the injury while rounding second base on a Adrian Gonzalez home run on Monday. Ortiz was forced to limp home.
Ortiz has hit .316 with 23 home runs and 58 RBI this season.
