Simmons out for one month with broken finger

The Braves have placed rookie shortstop Andrelton Simmons on the disabled list today with a broken right finger. Simmons hurt his finger on a head first slide on Sunday in Philadelphia. He will be in a cast for four weeks, and then he will be reevaluated.

Simmons began the year in the minor leagues, but got the call to the big leagues after fellow rookie Tyler Pastornicky failed to produce at the big league level. GM Frank Wren said he talked to Manager Fredi Gonzalez on Monday about the team's options at shortstop. "Fredi and I spoke this afternoon and we've started the process by talking with our scouts and will continue discussions with our minor league staff over the next few days to determine their thoughts on who would be the best fit for our club," Wren told The Associated Press.

Simmons hit .294 with three home runs and 15 RBI in 33 games this year with Atlanta.
