The Athletics have designated catcher Anthony Recker for assignment. The move creates space for Brett Anderson, who will be reinstated from the 60 day disabled list.Recker appeared in 13 games for Oakland early on in the season, but hasn't played a game with them since May. He has hit .265 in 229 plate appearances at the Triple-A level this year.
Analysis: Recker will probably clear waivers, but if a team claims him their pretty much just getting catching depth. He is a decent hitter, but a backup catcher on an MLB team at best.
