The Dodgers have designated outfielder Tony Gwynn Jr. for assignment. This move allows Los Angeles to recall Jerry Sands from Triple-A in a corresponding move.Gywnn has hit .232 in 277 plate appearances this season. He has missed a good amount of time this year with a shoulder injury. He is currently in the first year of a two year, $2 million contract.
