The Nationals have designated catcher Carlos Maldonado for assignment. The move creates roster space for the newly-acquired veteran catcher Kurt Suzuki.Maldonado appeared in four games with the Nationals this season. He spent most of the season in Triple-A, where he hit .223 in 146 plate appearances.
