The Padres have designated veteran pitcher Kip Wells for assignment. In a corresponding move, pitcher Cory Burns has been selected from Triple-A.Wells posted a 4.58 ERA in 7 starts with San Diego this year. This has been the first time that Wells has pitched in the Major Leagues since 2009. He signed a minor league deal with San Diego in May.
