The Rays have released outfielder/designated hitter Hideki Matsui. Tampa Bay designated the 38 year old veteran for assignment a week ago.The Rays signed Matsui to a minor league deal in April and he played 34 games with them. He hit .147 with 2 homers in 103 plate appearances.
