The Phillies have designated infielder Mike Fontenot for assignment. This creates roster space for fellow infielder Michael Martinez, who has been recalled from Triple-A.Fontenot has had a nice season, hitting .289 in 105 plate appearances with Philadelphia. Has has split time between second and third base ever since he signed a minor league deal with the Phillies in April.
Analysis: Fontenot will definitely get claimed. He is a really good bench player and any team seeking infield depth will try to snag him. I predict that the Athletics get him. They desperately need infield depth and they probably have a good spot on the waiver wire.
