The Mariners have announced that outfielder Johermyn Chavez has cleared waivers and has been outrighted to the minor leagues.Seattle designated Chavez for assignment earlier in the week after he hit .232 in 288 plate appearances at the Double-A level this season.
Analysis: Wow. Kind of surprising here. I was convinced that Chavez was going to get claimed. He hasn't had a good 2012 season, but has a nice amount of upside and is still very young. He also put up nice power numbers a few years ago, so it is obviously surprising to see him clear waivers.
