Markakis out for six weeks, season in doubt

The Orioles have announced that outfielder Nick Markakis will be out for six weeks following an MRI that showed that he had a broken hand. Markakis was hit by a CC Sabathia fastball on Saturday.

Manager Buck Showalter realizes that Markakis is going to be out for the remainder of the season, but also mentioned that he could return if the team makes it deep in the playoffs. Markakis has hit .298 this season with Baltimore.

Analysis: Tough break for the Orioles. Markakis is very underrated and he will definitely be missed. Now, Baltimore is going to have to rely on Nate McLouth and/or Lew Ford to fill in until he comes back.
