Diamondbacks designate Saito for assignment

The Diamondbacks have designated Takashi Saito for assignment to create roster space following the three team deal that the Diamondbacks were part of yesterday. Saito was already set to become a free agent when the World Series ends, so this move just takes him off of the 40 man roster in advance.

Arizona signed Saito to a one year, $1.75 ERA last December, and he missed most of the 2012 season due to a calf and hamstring injury. He posted a 6.75 ERA in 16 games for Arizona during the 2012 season.

Analysis: I've always liked Saito, but his career has been a train-wreck over the last two seasons. He was practically an elite setup man with the Dodgers, Red Sox, Brewers, and Braves, and the Diamondbacks were expecting him to be good in 2012. I think that he'll have a bounce-back season if he decides to continue to pitch in American in 2013.
