Hernandez, Torrealba elect free agency

Could Hernandez's career finally be over?

The Brewers have announced that pitcher Livan Hernandez and catcher Yorvit Torrealba have elected free agency instead of accepting their outright assignments to Triple-A. The two moves were expected, considering that the two players were set to become free agents when the World Series is over.

Hernandez posted a 6.42 ERA in 44 games with the Braves and Brewers in 2012. Torrealba hit .227 in 218 total plate appearances with the Brewers, Blue Jays and Rangers in 2012.

Analysis: I honestly expect Hernandez to retire soon, considering that he is really no more than a long relief man at this point in his career. Torrealba has some free agent value, but is really no more than a backup catcher on a good team.
