Outfielder Ryan Ludwick has told reporters that he will turn down his $5 million mutual option for the 2013 season. However, the Reds would like to discuss a new deal with Ludwick hoping that they can retain him at a reasonable price. Both sides are "very interested" in a multi-year deal.Ludwick had a great comeback season in 2012, hitting .275 with 26 homers in 472 plate appearances as the everyday left fielder.
Analysis: Ludwick had a great season, but for some reason I don't trust him. I wouldn't give him anything over $5 million if I was a team besides the Reds. I have a feeling that the hitter-friendly dimensions over at Great American Ballpark helped inflate his numbers. He'll still get a respectable contract, and rightfully so, but I don't think he is deserving a big deal.
