Yankees designate Wade for assignment

The Yankees have designated relief pitcher Cory Wade for assignment to create roster space for Dellin Betances, who has been reinstated from the 60 day disabled list to play in the Arizona Fall League.

Wade appeared in 79 games for the Yankees over the last two years, posting a 4.23 ERA in that span. He had a breakout 2011 campaign, posting a 2.04 ERA in 39.2 innings.

Analysis: If the Yankees had designated him for assignment a year ago, I would have expected a bunch of teams to try and claim him. However, after a horrific 2012 season, Wade will probably clear waivers because he hasn't shown consistency in his career.
