The Nationals have announced that first-baseman Adam LaRoche has declined his 2013 mutual option. He will not get a buyout but will become a free agent.LaRoche hit .271 with 33 home runs and 100 RBI in 647 plate appearances for Washington in 2012, and completely rebounded his career.
Analysis: This is a somewhat risky move by LaRoche, but I believe he'll ultimately get overpaid by someone. He has had some health issues in the past, but is a great defensive player and probably worth around $10+ million per season. He'll probably be looking at a contract along the lines of 4 years, $50 million or so. I say the Orioles pick him up.
