Rays exercise 2013 option for Molina

The Rays have exercised the 2013 club option for catcher Jose Molina. The option will be worth $1.8 million, as opposed to his $300k buyout.

Molina spent most of the 2012 season as Tampa Bay's starting catcher, hitting .223 in 274 plate appearances.

Analysis: I can understand this move because Molina is a good veteran catcher to have on your team. He gets along well with his pitchers, and even has a little pop to his bat. Since he is getting older, I expect the Rays to still go out and acquire a younger catcher, presumably so that person can start in 2013 and Molina can be slated as the backup.
