The Twins have announced that they have declined the 2013 option for pitcher Scott Baker. The option was worth $9.25 million.Baker missed the entire 2012 season following Tommy John surgery, but GM Terry Ryan has stated that he would like to re-sign the 31 year old. Supposedly Baker's agent has been in communication with the Twins' front office, perhaps about a one or two year deal based on incentives.
Analysis: Baker is actually an above average pitcher when healthy, but has struggled to stay on the field over the past few years. Re-signing him should be a priority for Minnesota, because they do not have any pitching depth. If Baker finds himself in 2012, he could be a steal for Minnesota.
