- Mets closer Frank Francisco has blown yet another save this season and his closing job could be in jeopardy. Manager Terry Collins could lose patience with the right-hander who currently has an ERA over 6. Other closing options for the Mets could include fire-baller Bobby Parnell, veteran Jon Rauch, or even Ramon Ramirez, who the Mets received in the Angel Pagan trade.
- Athletics pitcher Grant Balfour lost his closing duties Sunday and is going to replaced by lefty Brian Fuentes. Fuentes has been a guy who has had moderate success in the league, but had the majority of his success in Colorado a few years ago. Fuentes currently has a 3.86 ERA and judging by his track record, it appears that his ERA will remain in the high 3's. He may get a few saves with Oakland but if he has success in the closer role, I'm sure plenty of teams will be calling GM Billy Beane at the trade deadline.
- Next we have the Chicago White Sox, and there entire pitching staff is completely messed up. Chris Sale was excelling in the starting rotation but Manager Robin Ventura decided to put him in the closer role to save his young arm. A few days later he moved Sale back in the rotation and he is now saying the Addison Reed, Matt Thornton, and Hector Santiago will share the closer role. If the Sox are going to have any success this season, they'll have to assign roles to certain players in their bullpen and keep Chris Sale in the rotation.
- Dodgers pitcher Javy Guerra lost his closers gig in LA a few days ago to fire baller Kenley Jansen. Jansen has all the potential to become a dominant closer in the game and it will be exciting to see how this plays out.
- Francisco "Coco" Cordero lost his closers job in Toronto and it appears that Casey Janssen will take his job temporarily. Janssen has a decent arm and should have moderate success in the closer role until Sergio Santos returns from the DL. Hopefully Santos doesn't prove to be a bust because the Jays gave up a good prospect to get him.
- Lastly, the Yankees have had a little confusion in the closer role Rivera hurt himself and was lost for the season. Robertson has struggled, blowing 2 saves and looking a little questionable in the one that he converted. Rafael Soriano looked just fine when Manager Joe Girardi gave him the ball in the ninth.
