Red Sox acquire Scott Podsednik from the Phillies

Trade:  The Red Sox have acquired outfielder Scott Podsednik from the Phillies for future cash considerations. Podsednik will immediately report to Triple-A Pawtucket. Podsednik, 36, has not appeared in a major league game since 2010 he split time between the Royals and the Dodgers. The Red Sox have been looking for a left handed hitting outfielder for a few weeks now and it looks like they found their man.

Podsednik will give Boston some much needed outfield depth

Analysis: This is a really good deal for Boston.  Podsednik gives Boston some much needed outfield depth. He has always been known for his speed, stealing 301 bases over his 10 year career. However,  I don't really understand this side from Philadelphia's standpoint. They just traded an experienced outfielder for practically nothing. It is very possible that they may need outfield depth later in the season if Victorino gets traded/ or gets hurt. I believe the team traded Podsednik because they believe that if they need outfield help, they could just look at Pierre who shares a similar playing style with Podsednik.
