Twins designate Jason Marquis for assignment

The Minnesota Twins have designated pitcher Jason Marquis for assignment on Monday. The 33 year old right hander is struggling for far this season, posting an ERA of 8.47 and 3.2 K/9 and 3.7 BB/9. He signed a one year, $3 million deal with the Twins in the off-season and he was hoping to regain his market value to get a modest contract offer in the 2013 off-season. Despite his struggles with the Twins this season, Marquis has had success in the National League and could want to go their next time he signs a contract.

Will Marquis be able to turn his career around with another team?

Analysis: Marquis has always been a decent starter who can give you innings. He can provide some much needed pitching depth to teams like the Yankees and Red Sox. A team that is always linked to him are the Mets. He has constantly said that he would like to play for the Mets and came close to signing with them in the 2012 off-season. If the Mets were to acquire him, he would provide some nice starting rotation depth and could serve as the teams #4 starter. Overall, I think he will most likely get claimed because most teams are looking for pitching at the moment and even though his stats aren't that great so far, he still could gather some interest from a bunch of clubs.
