Losing Francisco is a tough blow for the Mets' bullpen because their bullpen has a collective ERA of 5.30 and has already blown 13 saves. Francisco has a 4.97 ERA and has converted 18 of 21 saves this season.
Manager Terry Collins has said that he plans to use pitcher Bobby Parnell in the closer role while Francisco is recovering. Parnell has a 3.30 ERA this year and has had some experience closing out games, converting 5 saves last season.
The Mets also made another roster move before tonight's game, activating shortstop Ruben Tejada and optioning Jordany Valdespin to Triple-A.
Analysis: Well, Francisco hasn't been great this season for the Mets but this is still a tough loss for them. The Mets don't have that much bullpen depth and their bullpen lists as one of the worst, if not the worst, in the major leagues. This is great news, however, for Bobby Parnell. Parnell has been dominant out of the 'pen for the Mets for the last few years and got a chance to save a few games last year when the club traded K-rod. Hopefully he takes this opportunity and runs away with it.
