The Rangers have released Brad Hawpe at his request. Hawpe signed a minor league deal with Texas in the off-season, and was released in late March. One week later he signed another minor league deal with Texas. Hawpe was struggling in Double-A and he asked for a release today. Hawpe told the Rangers that "he's not close to being able to help the big-league team."Hawpe hit .231 in 216 plate appearances for the Padres last year. He underwent Tommy John surgery last June and missed a bulk of last season.
Analysis: Hawpe's performance in Double-A definitely concerning but I think some team will take a chance on him. Some teams may look for him to serve as a left-handed bat off of the bench.
